Gardasil and Cervarix Vaccines

GARDASIL Vaccination (for girls and young women aged 9-26)

This vaccine can help protect against diseases caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6.11.16 & 18. Types 16 & 18 cause 70% of cervical cancer and types 6 & 11 cause 90% of genital warts.

Gardasil is given as 3 injections over 6 months. (0, 2 and 6 months).

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women under the age of 35 in the UK. On average 21 women die of cervical cancer each week in the UK. Up to 80% of sexually active women will become infected with the virus in their lifetime.

Gardasil can be given to children and adolescents 9 to 15 years of age and young women 16 to 26 years of age.

CERVARIX Vaccination (for girls and young women aged 10-25)

This vaccine can protect against HPV types 16 & 18.

Cervarix is given as 3 injections over 6 months. (0,1 and 6 months)
